Getting Paid

Add a payout method
To take paid bookings, set up payouts. Open Settings, then Payouts, pick your country, and fill in the short form right there: your name, date of birth, address, phone and bank account, and a tick to agree to Stripe's terms. Stripe, our payment partner, checks the details, usually within a few minutes, and your paid sessions go live on your page as soon as it is done. That bank account is where your money goes.
- You can set up payouts if you are in the EEA (except Iceland, for now), the UK, the US, Canada or Switzerland.
- In the EEA or Switzerland, your bank can be in any of those countries, not only your own: a Lithuanian IBAN works for someone in Latvia.
- Anywhere else, Settings says "Paid sessions are coming soon in your country." You can still list free sessions.
- Free sessions need no payout method at all.
- Until your payouts are set up, your paid sessions are hidden from your page. They show up as soon as they are.
- We keep only your bank's name and the last digits of the account. The rest goes to Stripe and is not stored by shinetree.
If Stripe needs more
Now and then Stripe cannot verify something, or asks for a quick check with your ID and a selfie. When that happens, the Payouts card in Settings and the top of your Payments page say so in red, in plain words, and a Stripe panel opens on the Payouts card where you can give it. We also email you, once, and again when Stripe has finished checking. Until it is done, your paid sessions may be hidden again.
Change your bank account
Open Settings, then Payouts, and press Change next to the bank you are paid to. Enter the new account and save. Payouts that are already on their way still go to the old account.
Change your name, address or phone
On the same card, press Edit details. Stripe's panel opens with what it has on file, and each part has an Edit button. Stripe may check a change before it takes, and the card says so if it needs anything more from you.
Remove your payout method
At the bottom of the Payouts card, press Remove your payout method. Your paid sessions come off your page until you set payouts up again, Stripe closes the account, and we keep none of your details. If a paid booking is still waiting for its payout, the remove waits until that has been paid.
When you get paid
shinetree collects the payment when someone books. After the session, your share is sent to your Stripe account, usually the next day. Stripe then pays your bank on its normal schedule. Your balance, what shinetree has sent, and your last payouts are under Payments in your account menu.
Fees
- Stripe takes its processing fee on every payment.
- shinetree takes 8% on the Starter plan, and 0% on Pro and Premium.
- Both are shown on each booking in your dashboard, next to your share.
See Pricing for the plans.
Offers and holds
- When someone sends a request or an offer, we put a hold on their card. Nothing is charged yet.
- If you accept, the card is charged.
- If you decline, they withdraw, or the offer runs out, the hold is released and they pay nothing.
- An offer can stay open for one week at most.
Cancellations and refunds
- You set a cancellation policy for each paid session: free cancellation until a number of hours before it starts.
- After that, you choose what the booker gets back: no refund, half back, or a full refund.
- If you cancel, the booker is always refunded in full.
- You can also press Refund on a booking in your dashboard, for up to 30 days after the session.
- Stripe's processing fee is not returned on a refund.
Disputes
If a booker disputes a charge with their bank, shinetree handles it with Stripe. The money for that session is held back until the bank decides. If the bank sides with you, it comes to you; if not, it goes back to the booker.
